Best Suntour Groupset

As the title says whats the best Suntour groupset for mtb in you guys opinion.

Hoping to equip my newly aquired 92 GT Pantera with Suntour but just for a change, try and get the best bits I can

Got full 1990 xc pro on one of my bikes and it is excellent, better than shimano xt of that period in my opinion.

Quiet complex question. XC pro/comp are equally same, just comp does not have grease guard feature. Quality is same good. Depends what budget you've got XC Pro is on pricey side. Now, Pantera 92 actually was equipped with Suntour and as mid-range bike had X-1 or either XCE groupset with X-press pods. If you willing to build with correct period go for it but this cheaper groupsets may be even harder to come than fancy XC Pro. Just avoid X-press shifters, Suntour had issues with indexing mode between cogs so Suntour pods have a bad reputation. I've got wishbone shifters because they look funky and are pretty rare, but best option IMO are thumbshifters down to LTD groupset. They are much better than wishbones and outperforming Shimano XT thumbies in all way.

Hmmmm, maybe I should mix'n'match from my Suntour stash.

I have wishbone shifters, xpress pods as well as 3 kinds of thumbies, XC-D and XC-E rear deraliers and similar front mechs plus sime diacompe levers and suntour canti's. I also know where to get more maybe.

The issue will be front mech as Pantera will almost certainly require a larger diameter band on than I have.

I should never have given my XC-Pro thumbies to Clockworkgazz, typical

I'm always reget some stuff which I've sold. Mix and match isn't a bad idea untill is a Suntour. Never had a Pantera but Zaskar has 31.8, does Pantera has same diameter? Trader called ditbicycels on here had NOS pro and comp with this clamp for 20 euro or something. I could poke him if you interested.

had it BITD XC Pro was the best

I once tried to race with a XC pro rear mech with shimano stuff as my mech had exploded the day b4..needless to say lots of chainslip etc :D

So I can confirm that Shimano-suntour doesnt mix

Where did the superb versions fit into the suntour range.
Was it XC Pro Superb or something like that? :?

Superbe and Superbe Pro were the top road groups, both excellent. The name wasn't used for mtb gear.
