This is an excellent thread for someone as ignorant as myself regarding UK cycle manufacturing. I only have a couple standard Raleigh road and roadsters for English bikes; but I obtained a wonderful bespoke frame from a small builder in Nottingham (Mick "Chalky" Czieka) who badged some as "Henry Lloyd" while working at Lloyd's shop.
Though the frame was built in '86, it has an earlier look to it; and I would like to build it up with the finest English/UK components. Prefer a time frame of years '50s to '70s parts ('70s primarily for lightweight racing parts; frame is Reynolds "SL"), but anything pre-'87 is acceptable; nothing newer than the frame preferred.
I am not trying to be period correct or matching of brands, I just want high quality UK parts (oddities are okay) on a unique frame that deserves something other than Asian, French, Italian, etc. parts. Note: I intend to donate and "repatriate" this frame back to England for historical purposes; hopefully to a Nottingham region bike museum or old shop. The frame deserves to be seen by the culture that created it; and believe me that same culture does not exist in the US to the same degree. There are no veteran/classic/eroica cycling events (or many cycling events at all!) around me; I live in a cycling desert (shops cannot even work on my bikes!).
Cost of course plays a big part so no really rare stuff is needed; though I would take a pantographed component if available (have not seen any Lloyd badged parts yet). I have a couple GB stems, 1 bar (late 60s-mid '70s), but that is all; and bar/stem is already mounted on an Italian bike (need to change, but rode it for 40 yrs that way so kind of a sentimental thing leaving as is).
Thanks for any suggestions!
