Best England football manager that never was....

Sir Alex has said he couldn't lead out an England team if they had to play Scotland!

John Cleese would be interesting. Imagine one of the players adopting a Ministry of Silly Walks approach to penalty taking! (Actually, might be an improvement given the history in shoot outs!)

Spike's half time team talk would be a "fly on the wall" moment to end them all!

Alex knows his football.

Unlikely his England side would need to meet Scotland. ;)

I'm sure the England selectors thought if they took me on and gave me the job, I'd want to run the show. They were shrewd, because that's exactly what I would have done.
On not getting the England manager's job.

Clough did actually 'take charge' of an England youth team out in Japan....in the period him and Greenwood (from memory) were running for the job. The Japs were out the traps fast with the early astro-turf and it's irregular bounce and unfortunately for clough a mic was shoved under his nose and he told the waiting Japanese press 'it's amazing to me how a nation who can put a television screen in my wristwatch can't grow a bit of bleedin grass, if god would have wanted to play football in the heavens he'd have turfed the clouds'...Greenwood got the job.
