Bending mech hangers back

I've just bent my brand new steel frame's mech hanger on it's first outing!

It's about 10 degrees inward at the moment. True Temper PLatinum OX tubing (well at least the frame is - don't know about the dropout).

I've had my 6/4ti mech hanger bent back on occasion at my lbs (they do have that Park bender backerer tool)

can they just do the steel one the same?

Is it likely to just snap?

I'm presuming the fact that Lemond chose not to use a replaceable one, might mean they intended it to be bent back when this happened?

A Steel hanger should be able to be straightened, due to the properties of Steel

You can DIY with a large adjustable spanner, but if you want 100% accuracy LBS it.

should be ok, posted on you other thread, dura ace tool is best. the adjustable would be ok for a townsend . . . or a magna . . . or an apollo . . . it's a beautiful frame, get it done with proper tools . . . please.

Oh, I'm no bodger trust me. I'll LBS it and they are a good shop with good mechanics and an owner with a similar taste in simple retro exotica. Think it's a Park tool though, not Shimano.

Will get it in there on sunday. Just so scared it won't come back ok.

will it be horribly weakened after this move?

hammer and adjustable = butcher tools

when i employ a new mechanic, until i'm happy with him i remove these from the workshop!

what's your shop? I know Southampton fairly well.

Down that way every now and then. You're not Rock 'n' Road by any chance are you? They moved down there a while back didn't they?

cough cough . . . . no, you might have heard of us, you might not, depends on the circles you move in. i run GA cycles. it's been there 20 years, rock' n' road is exotica. we're highend but we've always been known for workshop skills but gary (owner) has never done any advertising, all word of mouth and our team and it's the busiest shop i've ever been in, especially the workshop. did put a website link below but our website is quite poo coz we've never chucked any money at it, it's just what we've cobbled together ourselves and trust me, i'm no computer guy! have a look if you want, be impressed by the basicness of it!
we've always tried to avoid the website thing and mailorder etc but things might change, gary is "retro" when it comes to modern thinking! top bloke though. (he gave me the d2 frame for a bonus! )

Like the idea of not mail ordering. It's surely the future, but not we all need an LBS.

So you reckon the hanger might be ok? They don't often snap when you do this do they?

my friend mark bent his mech hanger on his marin team issue BITD & it was like cheese after that. bending every other ride. I use SRP alu main pivot bolt mech hangers on my bikes without replaceable mech hangers, just prefer to see an exploded mech than a bent frame
