ideal for your weenie kestrel TT carry up and pick your way down
did it 10 or so years ago and it was tough going with a bike
some bits rideable some not
it is worth the climb on a good day tho

Did you regret taking a bike Mikee? Was it your first time up and you decided to take the bike or was it 'just because it was there'?

How much time do you think you were carrying?

I would guess 40% +, even on the tourist route, going up, and not much less going down for pushing.

Do you think it was more enjoyable than walking it?

I think it would be a pain to be saddled with any extra encumberence, pardon the pun!

:)

it was a just to do it thing , definatley more rideable on the way down
and i suppose it was more of a bikehike than mountain biking (ironicaly)

It's scotland, go where you want. Wouldn't be fun though and would involve a fair bit of carrying on the way up. I assume you mean the tourist path, Mr Panda is our Nevis Area expert.

I am?

Cycling up and down the Ben tourist route - I wouldn't bother - there are many much better places to go. Its just an "I've done that" skit.

Now, cycling along the Carn Mor Dearg Arete

Even as a kid I saw an exhibit concerning this. There was a huge logistical effort involved, and frequent use of manpower to get it up there.

I've read the background. Lots of bridges, boardwalks and digging. Bit of driving, plenty of pushing. Still counts in my mind. It's not like they took it to bits and reassembled it on the summit, or dropped it there by hot-air balloon :)

I have this urge to visit Scotland. Is Carn good??

That was a joke, sort of :P Its a narrow ridgewalk with lots of near-verticality on the sides, which leads up to Ben Nevis, not a bike route

Plenty good places to go however - depends what you want - Downhill, X/C, and everything in between readily available 8)

Pop into MacRetroland and we'll find you something
