Aargh! The BB (Shimano UNxx type as far as I know) on my Orbit America seems to be seized into the frame - not a big issue in some ways as it still runs smoothly, but I'd like to dismantle the frame for a repaint soon and fit a Hope titanium BB unit I've got lying around surplus. I've tried Plus-Gas poured down the seat tube and then left to soak overnight before applying a big adjustable spanner and my trusty Park splined tool without any joy. I don't want to do anything too brutal that might ruin the alignment of the frame itself (plus the splines on the cups are easily wrecked by one mistake too many); years ago I removed a Stronglight sealed unit by tapping out the axle and sawing the cups into segments with a hacksaw blade before knocking these away with a cold chisel, but the Shimano units seem rather more bomb-proof in construction so this may not be an option for me this time around. Suggestions most welcome.
Thanks in advance,
David
