Bar width

Left my new flat bar at it's full 600mm width

Having used Brahma bars in the past, then moving on to drop bars I couldn't go back to something narrow.

Unfortunately on the flat bar the excess unused bar looks a bit sparse.
I think I need some bar ends.

22" (560) or wider if possibele.

Wider bars offer more fine control and more leverage - narrower ones offer faster responses (though feel too twitchy to me) - wider bars will also allow easier breathing and place lass strain on your shoulder blades and upper back muscles. though this is horses for courses and your personal preference/comfort may vary!

In the late 90's i have a great set of X lite Xpert flat aluminium bars at a honking 25" wide - perfect :) and do you think i can find them now grrr.

I remember in the early 90's the trend was for narrower bars as they were lighter, though Steve Worland used to rant on about wanting a nice full width 23" bar for more control

I use 685mm (riser) bars, have been since the mid 90's.
I tried narrow flat bars but they're just too uncomfortable for me.

... also very handy for getting caught on gateposts and trees.

66 cm on my crosscountry bike
73 cm on my stock trials bike

from my experience the wider you go, more upsweep is necessary.

600mm flat bar. i keep my hands ever so slightly inboard on them, a 580 would probably be ok too

I've got an original set of kore risers ,they're only 610mm uncut.
I used narrow straight bars for years and am used to narrow bars.Modern bars i find are too wide and that they cause my shoulders to ache :?
