Banana - How to install a current style mech hanger?

Re:

They are Novotec hubs... Whilst modern, I selected them on the basis that they looked retro given the 1952 frame age.

And given we are talking about hubs now... ;)

The front hub spins lovely after around 1000 miles in all weather.
The rear hub, well... the main seal (on the drive side) doesn;t appear to seal all that well and water ingress caused the main bearing cartridge to fail (grinding/squeeking/lateral play) after only 400 miles or so.
I replaced all the bearings in the freehub and the wheel - not an overly expensive repair - but very time consuming.

I inspect every month or so now and make sure it's clean and regrease as appropiate.
Dunno whether it's a poor design, wasn't assemble well or what....but it is what it is.
Still I do like the Novotec hub look and if you are handy with the tools then all is good. If not then pull your hair out as appropiate!

;)

Re:

Just to add.....

....I am not convinced it is the hubs.....more the hangar.

Having said all that, I shall report back when I get the new hangar installed (It is in the post already) and keep you all appriased.

Aha, Novatec, Ambrosio, Formula, they are all the same!

I think the edge of the hub isn't particularly good at gripping in the frame - I replaced the wheel with a Campagnolo hubbed one after an embarrassing and almost catastrophic incident on they way to work. 3000 miles later and no more wheel popping out.

I've used the hubs on frames with vertical dropouts without any issue of pop-outs.

I have also been through the ballache of replacing the bearings!

And what an ache it is.....but if it doesn't kill you. It makes you stronger.

Would it be feasible to replace the outer locknuts with Campag or similar ones? With a decent QR this should make them secure.
