And bloody chocolate Gateaux.

al.

Gateaux just needs leaving in the shop, home made black forest gateux is where it is at. :D

I'm a great lover of DIY

Alison

Black forest gateaux made with cherry brandy yum yum.

And DIY, well normally I like it, sort of, but today the DIY, I ended up with splinters because I was playing with wood, a very inaccurate material, but at least it was reclaimed timber, pity it took me as long to remove all the nails that were in it, but I straightened the nails and will use them another day, so nothing wasted, not even my time, as despite the splinters what I was making actually worked.

I thought this was going to be a thread about silencers for one of your cars with broken suspension Al, I was mistaken.

What were you making? I always love seeing others work :D

a very inaccurate material

Sorry,i have to disagree with you there :?

A coat rack for fitting onto a plasterboard wall, the previous attempts at fitting a coat rack, shop bought things, the weight of coats pulled even the correct fixing out of the wall and left gaping holes, and no there is no studding anywhere in the wall to secure too. What I made is designed to spread the load over more fixings spaced further apart with lower hanging points for things like bags so load is not concentrated in one small area. My place is very small, one really has to think to make good use of it and it being the last studio flat and building to be built by the estate builder thirty years ago, this place was not built well, a typical light duty timber framed structure and the materials used leave a lot to be desired. I have compared this place to some of the earlier buildings, the first ones built and this place is crap in comparison, but that is always the case, the last building built are where the builder's interest has left the site long ago.

But the inaccuracy I experienced was part due to the conditions of it's creation, sitting on the grass outside with hand tools to cut the wood to size is hardly ideal, but at least it was hardwood, teak I think, but some wood I ripped out of a double Divan I smashed up so it could be stuffed in my car for only one dump run.

Next job pan rack for kitchen, am on look out for old floorboards as they are ideal for what I have in mind.

Unfortunately no where to put a work bench, as only I have my flat which did have a jewellers bench in it where I used to do some light metalwork, but someone complained and now my landlord has banned me from doing jewellery making in the flat, and to think my flat is only one with two different types of smoke alarm and a gas detection alarm, yeah, I used to use a propane blow pipe in the flat to do my silver soldering.

But today cutting some more wood with a panel saw, I found a way of supporting the wood, shove one end in the boot of my car and put my tool box on top of it to stop it moving, a much better job.

To be fair blow lamps and landlords dont mix for a reason, theyre dangerous and it would probably be ok on your own property but with someone elses its their rules im afraid

I take it thats a hand and not motor powered mitre saw :?

There is a rather neat bench that folds onto the wall. The work area hides a swing out leg or legs.Just lift it up ,swing out the legs and you have a large stable platform.
I saw one in one of the woodworking mags. The whole thing isnt any more than about 7 or 8" proud of the wall so folded down its really unobtrusive :?
Batten screwed on to the wall about 3' long.A strip hinge and a 2 pieces of MDF glued together[totalling 38mm]to make the top. another batten and strip hinge to fix the fold out leg/s on to.
Box in the sides if you want to hide things better when folded down
