Badger Cull.

And how dies the efficacy of a cattle vaccine strengthen the case for badger eradication? Bless them.

Badgers on the side of/in the the road? With little or damage? If you can, check it for teeth, no teeth = badger baiting. This is the number one way of gypsies/travellers/etc to get rid of badger bodies from baiting. And it goes on a lot more than you might think.

Irrelevant, as a vaccine given in the field would contravene EU law.

But I don't understand exactly what you're getting at? Poor efficacy = poor vaccine.

Hi Ross , with the amount of pikeys in the area ,

I doubt whether I would be surprised mate .

Wonder how much fly tipping around Devils Dyke area is due to them too ?

Re:

Lots of good info coming out, and definitely some for and some agin, but I'm still not getting a reason why people are against the cull.

Re:

In a nutshell , it will have little effect . Badgers won't stop breeding as a result . It won't go away as a result . Therefore a more effective solution is needed .

Though from what we have learnt from this thread , who knows what that solution may be .

Funny thing is, where i am you see quite a few badgers on the side of the road, but compared to the ones i used to see in the UK they are frikking massive. And almost all have been hit by cars or lorries (you usually see a few bits of bumper/radiator/body work against the crash barrier 30 or so meters after the corpse).
We also quite often see them running around in the countryside round us, or hear them fighting in the garden. Noisy buggers.

The ones i used to see in the UK (Mainly Peak district, NYM, Yorkshire dales) were mostly the size of small dogs, and looked pretty manky. The ones over here are probably half as big again and always look fairly sleek/healthy.

(BTW, it's legal to hunt/kill them here, depending on how you do it and where they live, IIRC most poisons are illegal, but you can shoot them. But then, they aren't particularly rare here, and there isn't much pressure on the land, unless they set up shop in or under a building, or in the garden.)

Re:

my friend ran over 2 badgers on purpose while i was in the car,
he sped up to hit them as they were running along the road.
ile never forget him lauging his head off an saying "i bet they were a couple an the female was pregnant" i felt sick an i was really angry with him

2 weeks later he was killed in a car crash, he was not driving though,
he was in the same seat i was when he ran over the badgers,
his mate was driving an i dont think hes ever driven a car again since.

still freaks me out that, but since then i have always had a respect for the little buggers, i could not harm 1 an i hate the cull,
but i also dont know what the sollution is an i respect the people who are trying to solve the problem.
i hope they have a breakthrough with a better vaxs
