Back from Platsa (unfortunately...)

Well, I'm sure no-ones really interested but we've just got back from Greece.
At least this time I managed to get a lot more riding in (not so much work to do as previously) and best of all, through doing a ghetto tubeless conversion, rid myself of the bane of my life in Greece - thorn punctures.

I don't know why I didn't do it before now - slackness probably  .
So, in seven weeks of very, very thorny riding not a single flat - I pulled quite a lot of the bigger thorns out after each ride and all self-sealed after a second or two, there must be dozens of small thorns still in the tyres though.
I used 60ml of Stan's in each and ran both at about 25 psi.

A few photographs - one taken at about 2000 metres up in the Taigetos range and the others just close to Platsa.
Up in the Taigetos you can tell that I'm looking forward to the next 20 kilometres all being downhill to the coast (but with a sting in the tail - a climb of 400 metres from sea level back up to Platsa, right at the end of a tough 65km. loop  ) Well, tough for an old man, anyway

That looks an absolutely fabulous to ride 8)

Not too hot :?

When I did the big loop up into the Taigetos the temperature was probably around 28 Celcius at sea level but a lot less than that up in the mountains. Temperature yesterday was 38C.

As I did the ride with a friend of mine who is mostly a roadie (and ten years younger than me  ) I had to really dig in on the smoother sections of the climb but on any technical stuff and all the downhill (which he hates) I was able to get my own back :P - in fact for the last 800 metres of descent we parted company and he went down on the road and I went cross country on what were the roughest sections of the whole ride.

We're like chalk and cheese as far as the type of riding we like to do goes but for the few weeks that we meet in Greece we're able to get along just fine, surprisingly. Plenty of mutual piss-taking helps.....

A couple more photos anyway - you can see the track down, on the shoulder below the main dirt road (which in itself isn't as smooth as it looks from a distance).
