ayel road bike

anyone have a memory of ayel bikes?

it is a lightweight 531 racing frame - no mudguard eyes, campagnolo dropouts etc.

i believe they where produced in the 1980s by a bike wholesaler of the same name, the company run by Alan Lloyd. They sponsored the 1980s ANC team (of Tour De France fame), before it became “ANC Halfords”.

my guess is the frame was produced as a “race replica” on the back of the teams success.

And that’s about all i know.

Ideally i would love to see a picture of one of these.

thanks

Hi, Yes Ayel frames were Alan lloyds who was the importer for a lot of high end kit in the UK. I dont know who built his Ayel frames but you are correct they sponsored ANC through 1985 until ANC`s deal with Peugeot and Campagnolo. The Ayel ANC team bikes featured Gipiemme groupset as Alan LLoyd was the importer for Gipiemme also, I will dig out a photo as I have stacks of 80`s magazines and pretty sure there`s an edition of `cycling` that had ANC`s Joey Mcloughlin on the cover riding one ,
