Hi All,

I've got a Diamond Back with Avenir Brahma Bars and original grips. I'd like to remove them ideally without damaging the grips or the bars.

They look like this image I pinched from eBay. Any tips or suggestions? They're really tight and the rubber is 30 years old so it won't take much punishment.

Bitd I did use hairspray to get grips on, as it gets sticky. Wouldn't use it for removal. Wd40 or similar for short grips, or water for me, should work with longer bars though dunking suggestion is good

You have to get water (or wd40 if you prefer) under the gummi grips all the way form from outside till inside end.
I would clearly recommend to use a syringe with needle and to inject it.
That works for me best for removing grips i don't want to damage.

But actually, i had same bar with grips from a 1991 DB, as the grips had a lot of wear, i ripped them off without taking care, and even with using a cutter knife it wasn't easy as the rubber was very thick and hard.

Compressor. Just wrap the metal nozzle in insulation tape to stop it scratching the bars. Takes grips off in seconds.
