Just wondering what type of assembly/maintenance grease you chaps use,ive always used white grease from work but lately ive found its not suited to all applications and some bolts have seized a bit where its broken down.

Use the finish line range of greases..,used it for years with no problems... apart from the copper one, as you can buy a good quality one from your local car place..

I have used normal petroleum jelly (Is that correct name for thick stuff made from oil that is used f.ex. in industrial bearings? Got it from dictionary :D ) It has worked for me without problems.

I only have steel-steel applications , so other type of assembly grease might be better for other materials...

It depends what the grease is for. I use Silkolene RG2 for bearings. Finish Line white grease for general assembly, Copperslip for threads / titanium part assembly, and Stendec for forks.

Hi,

Earlier this week I wrote in another thread that I use oils and greases for rust preventioning my car and bikes. Well, the grease products are also excellent for mounting bolts, bottom bracket etc. They are FluidFilm Gel and Mike Sander.

Last time i built a bike i used some fancy waterproof grease my dad borrowed from his works, I cant remember the full name of it but it started like Moly......, Was very good though and expensive i believe.

molybdenum grease?
If so, this is designed essentially for high load shear applications, rather than running surfaces like bearings, so not ideal in all apps.
Often used for racks in cars and such like.
