As if it was not bad enough having a horizon interrupted in every direction by wind turbines, they are commissioning dreg like this to clutter up the tourist spots.

Designed to withstand 100mph winds aye?

Big rock on a piece of metal.

Those rocks were on the shore, and that would be the place to leave them.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, another quango taking our money and pissing it up the wall.

Look at the freakin dross they had planned to set at one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the area..

Public art can be successful, I am no Gormley fan but nearly everyone loves the Angel of the North. Big budget + big named artist gives a much better chance of success. The above in the art world is known as 'a turd in the plaza'

Frankly a couple of nice benches and picnic tables would be better.

There are tables/seating right next to these monstrosities at Groats. All they do is ruin the view, which on a nice day is pleasant enough if not spectacular.

Thankfully the piece at Dunnet Head was rethought and has not been installed. There is absolutely no need for any intrusion on the natural view in that case; it is a hauntingly beautiful, remote location with an atmosphere of mystery thanks to the war time buildings and the high cliffs.

Needs no embellishment, and if anything the war time buildings could be sympathetically converted to an exhibition centre/information point and possibly a cafe of sorts.

The problem really is that these groups of people who sit on committees and have budgets to spend all want to commission artists and such rather than make practical improvements to the facilities or minimise costs or impact. Organisations like Highland and Islands Enterprise have a history of spending millions on projects that reap no profit, companies taking huge grants then packing up once the money and good will dries up and their losses are no longer being ameliorated by the public purse.

I have no problem with large art pieces, but the rural landscape of the North of Scotland is not the place for it. People come here to get away from all that.

Far too many scenic areas they think we go there to humour some pretend artists ego, when the only thing needed is some seats to enjoy the best artwork of all, the view.
