Arrest over cycle race sabotage

errh no .

it would be a shame if some of my taxes would help pay for someone like that .

Mental illness is just as real as physical illness.

It's easy for you to make a judgement, but you haven't got a clue what this person is like. My guess is he's ill, and as such he deserves treatment, just like someone who breaks their leg. Perhaps if he'd recieved it in time, none of this would have happened.

I agree ,for a 62 yr old to do something like that is odd enough to warrant a psychiatrist interviewing him
Which will probably happen now
At least no one was badly hurt :?

Very true. About 1 in 4 people will experience some degree of mental illness in their life. Unfortunately their is a huge amount of ignorance and therefore stigma attached to mental health. The mainstream media also promotes very unhealthy and unhelpful stereotypes which contributes towards many peoples negative attitudes. Many peoples perception of mental health is all too often woefully out of touch, out of date and can be very offensive.

I've done quite alot of work recently to help promote positive attitudes towards mental health so you'll have to forgive me for these late night ramblings.

Mental illness should not be an excuse for someone s action .

people could have been seriously hurt .

@ Tintin : vast majority of locals are happy about the race , only a few disagree with it . rads are only shut for 3 hours and there was a bus service to take people to church .

I'm not attempting to excuse his actions. But what do you think we should do with him? Lock him up? Beat him up?
As a developed, modern society we have a responsibility to look after the people who can't look after themselves. If we'd have been doing our job properly, this probably wouldn't have happened.

Best to leave what to do with him with the judge .

he is still an idiot , and whether he has a mental illness or not has nothing to do with the stupidity of his act .

I still reckon getting him to pay would be the way forward. Hundreds of cyclists, hundreds of new tubes at £4 a pop, hundreds of gas cylinders - methinks many thousands of pounds...
