Has anybody used them/this service before? I was thinking of sending them one of my frames to have the BB area rethreaded (I'm all out of other options other than slicing 4mm off the left side of my frame!)

They want £80 though and £17 postage EACH WAY (for just a front triangle?!) so if I do go for it, I'll either be dropping it in or doing my own courier!

There are several threadless bottom brackets out there. They aren't the best, or lightest, but they will do the job.

80 quid just to rethread a bb :? am i reading that right :?

Take it to any of the charity bike projects and theyll have the tool for that job.Bring a box of biccys as payment :D

I'm in Southampton on a pretty regular basis, I could save you at least some of the postage by picking it up from you and dropping it to Argos.

I'm only about during office hours, but if you can make the frame available somewhere I can take it to Bristol.

See my feedback, I've done this a couple of times now.

If it is just rethreading then a good LBS will do that for not a lot of cash. I had one done recently for £15. Chased and faced.

Going off the description I would guess they ream the BB shell out slightly then press in a sleeve with new threads in it so not really a re-tap job.

^ Yes exactly.

If anyone knows where you can get a 73mm threadless bottom bracket then please say!!

Chasing an old damaged thread is pretty cheap and easy, £70 tool and 5 mins.

However, If they're going to ream/mill out the old thread and sleeve the BB threads, this is a good 1 hour job involving big expensive tools, skilled work, wages, overheads and public liability insurance. The inserts themselves are around £20 alone.
Add on perhaps 30 mins to unwrap and prep, 15 mins to wrap up again and booking a courier twice.

Sorry to sound like an old grouch, but £80 + £17 each way seem pretty reasonable for a specialist bit of engineering, (compared to car servicing for example, where there is a fierce market). Even so, they might only make £15-£20 profit on the whole job, if they're lucky.

Apparently BETD in Stoke can do the same job, too...don't know their price, though.

If it's not worth that much (either open market or sentimental value), scrap it.

All the best,

Might save a few quid with Eastside Bikes in Edinburgh, rethreading service, off eBay, £75 all in.
