Are these retro

a fork mounted mudguard front & rear of the tyre is waaay more effective than a downtube crudguard..(& if people wanna come on a ride with me they'd soon realise why they need 1  )

yeh pete made a mint outta a sheet of plastic for £8 or more  wish I'd thought of it! 8)

Well, actually they're injection moulded, not vacuum formed from sheet stock and the retail price has to be high enough to allow amortisation of the tooling costs within a reasonable time (at least before you want to manufacture a later version).......
I agree that non of them are particularly effective (but a little better than nothing) and do absolutely nothing for the look of a bike, especially the later larger versions. However, I hate the look of those fork mounted guards even more - I'm sure they are a lot more effective, but I won't ever be seen using one...... :)

dude, pete made a MINT from selling those "pieces of plastic" ;)

Oh I'm sure he did make a mint Scant, and I do completely agree with you - for what they are any simple injection moulded item like that does seem ludicrously expensive.
It's only really mundane items like plastic buckets or washing up bowls that seem to be realistically priced, in spite of sometimes more complex tooling ( a Crudcatcher, of course, is as mundane as they come.......)

They're pretty useful...stops all the shit hitting you in the face off the front wheel....only ever used one on my Pace mind (this was factory fitted and has nice Pace graphics on it)....can't say i've bothered on other bikes i've owned though...
