Is there much difference with the performance between Magura's and v-brakes?

How much do they cost when buying them new and where do any bike shops stock them?

I believe MSRP was around $299 USD and my LBS has a NOS pair in the showcase! I used to work at the shop so could probably get a great deal if anyone is interested...
