are we talking numbers, or 'real terms' ?
If numbers, then £46.95 is more than £40
If we're talking 'real terms' then that 1990 £46.95 is worth WAY MORE than £40 in 2008.
For that reason I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find any bike stuff that is worth more now than it was new (including Klein bikes or Yo forks).
