Are all crown races the same?

There will be crown races that fit, know your bearing size and you may be able to find one.
Often just easier to buy a new headset though.

Being Tange though means you've got a wide range and re-badged.

what you need to do is find a fork race that is for a headset with a deeper bearing cup than the one currently installed in the bike. that way the shelf on the race will be smaller than what you would actually need, and the race will not rub the headset cup. The downside is there will be essentially no seal on the lower bearing, but you can fashion a slip-cover seal out of a length on inner tube and cover the entire lower portion of the headset with a rubber 'sock'.

This would probably be a good way to continue to use your Tange headset.

This.. Or I have found that the Hope crown races can be a godsent - if you get the right one.. Hope make a split crown race which is pretty versatile and can be used to fit a variety of headsets and even carries its own lower seal. Unfortunately I can't remember the prodict code - but it's worth looking out for.

Cheeky rogue! :xmas-wink:

I remember back in our primary school days my mate got some bike from a catalogue for his birthday (a Universal something - lime green and white monstrosity of a thing). His old man built it up for him but managed to get the brake levers the wrong way round. Mate went charging off on his new bike, went to do a big skid, and to this day still has a scar on his chin from where he ended up on the tarmac about 10 feet in front of the handlebar. Still makes me laugh as I type, just thinking about it!
