Is there any reason for that seat tube?

Don't think there is. Frame was especially made for a team rider so no need to adjust seatpost :? Perhaps more strength to the frame :?

Hmmm, still would think the seat post should run down below the seat tube to avoid damage to the frame and give it strength, but I guess that would be impossible in this case. I'm no engineer, but some things should not be built

If you're not familiar with Steve's work, he was one of the founding partners in Wilderness Trail Bikes and is master framebuilder... first in steel, and now in Titanium.
