Have any of these (and their ilk) ever produced a decent bike?

Can Carrera be put in the same group as this lot?

There are/were some good Carrera bikes around, although like most others they've down graded now  Always a couple of notches up from the Apollo, Emmelle etc stuff

emmelle used to be (slightly) better than the bso's, muddy fox have downgraded ALOT! and thus have silverfox too, magna,appollo,emmelle,universal,rhino.... all bso's
carrera are better than bso's but are considered bottom of the pack (of 'real' bikes, i.e. not bso's). carrera do a high price range too though dont forget, not sure why they have a tarred reputation  :?

Seen full bikes on here change hands for less than a new Apollo. . .

Actually, seen used Apollo's up for more than bikes which would go down ok here...

Not saying they're good, just thinking that one of them, somewhere down the line, might have produced a half decent one.. the law of averages being what it is ;)

I have seen from both Emmelle and Townsend some decent Reynolds 501 framed stuff with reasonable mid level components but that was in the dim and distant past. Pretty sure Universal and Apollo have not produced anything but utter crap since day one although Apollo did briefly make an STI equipped alloy roadbike called the TDF in yellow which was a reasonable bargain.

Carrera are leagues ahead of Apollo, Townsend, Boss etc who produce utter crap.

Carrera are more on a par with GT, Kona & lower end Spesh & Trek.

Carrera Fury, Vulcan & Kraken are pretty decent MTB's

Shame they come from Halfords.

Boss made some half decent bikes bitd. Also remember the Emmelle Dolomite was on a par with the Saracen Tufftrax and Marin Palisades around 1989 so not that bad.
