Well I either use DNS ghost or in the past I've used a paid for service like Swiss-VPN to hide my nerfarious shennanigans.

Without something like this I can quite easily locate you within say a 20 metre radius of you home location let alone your ISP details.

Har har!

What do I have to do to let you do this?

;)

When you are on your computer go to somewhere like www.whatismyip.com which will give you your "external" ip address and supply that to me via pm.

See, this bit. I understand. The site team would be able to get my ip but how would any ordinary member just be able to get that?

They can't, but depending on "external" factors just getting you to send me an email gives me plenty of information about you.

As above if you're a business it's more difficult because you'll be behind various things like proxies and firewalls but if you a home user you'll more than likely only be behind a router.

It's a lot easier nowadays than in the 80's when you had to troll round someones bins for information.

But they did, so I assume from what you have said that the only way another member could get my ip is from one of the moderating team in that particular forum?

I couldn't say with any degree of certainty as I don't know if you have sent email or in your posting past given any such stuff away to anyone else via ebay etc etc

Not this forum but another and no, no emails or private stuff ever mentioned so either in that other forum a backroom member has given out private info or this individual knows how to trace people and gain access to others and no it's not another bike forum

That was the reason for finding out not if I can hide for personal wrong doings but just people having access to my stuff without my permission.

Well then I imagine the chap has access to the server that the forum resides on.
