I was in discussion with him about an old Hope brake but he stopped replying and I see he hasn't been on the forum for a bit - hope he's ok.

He is probably trying to true a wheel on the chopper bike of his!! I could imagine him coming out the shed days later with a hagred beard oblivious to the fact a week has past!!
