anyone running cable disks?

I run BB7's on my winter bike.
Work great and really simple to adjust and maintain.
I bought mine one of the Honk Kong sellers on ebay, but there are loads of 'UK' sellers offereing them for around the £50 mark now

Got BB7s on my dual slalom bike. I really like them and their simplicity.
Got Hopes and Maguras on other bikes. When I ride the bike with the BB7s I never notice a lesser performance.

I've been running BB7s on various bikes for over 8 years - easy to fit or adjust and very little to go wrong. I'm running them on 2 bikes currently. Use good quality cables - Goodrich outers are pretty stiff.
TRP do a twin-piston disc caliper for CX - nice and compact, but don't do an MTB version.

I use no name taiwan specials, caliper and pads completes a tenner, they even have a floating caliper for when you ding the rotor. As good as V-brakes in my opinion despite the low cost. Even the cheapo stuffs no bad these days in comparison to the past.

ive seen a few poor ones come it on cheap bikes i think if they had better levers an cables that would help, as the levers normally hit the bars with a good squeeze ha ha,

humm, just a quick glance an that sounds odd to me, we have found with no pads or exessesivly worn ect that they fail, well its a big fail if you fit them with no pads

We ran BB5s on the wifes MTB for a couple of years. They worked ok, but a bit finicky to set up rub free.
You need to get the best cables you can afford (they have much less tolerance to outers compressing/inners stretching, think XT/XTR quality) this adds to the cost.
Main issue was that they don't self adjust to account for pad wear, so every now and again i had to spend a few minutes grubbing round with a multitool trying to move the inner pad out, and then stopping it rubbing again. Usually half way round a ride with the wife complaining about her brakes suddenly being rubbish!
TBH, unless your current hydraulics are rubbish, i'd just bleed them.
Can only personally think of half a dozen occasions where someone has broken (terminally) a hydraulic hose. Whereas i know of dozens who have had a cable snap!
