Anyone receive a similar warning from Paypal?

Last night I received an email from Paypal warning me that my "customers" are sending me personal payments (payments as "gifts") for purchases. They warned that it violates their rules and if they continue to see such activity, they will disable my ability to receive personal payments.

I'm sure there are others who buy/sell a lot more than I do. Have you received a similar warning and did Paypal follow through on it?

I had a warning like that last year and carried on as usual.....no probs so far...who do they think they are some kind of dictator :x

Was it addressed to your name? If it is addressed to 'Dear Paypal member' it is a scam.

last year they wanted me to verify that i wasn't a business as i was selling a lot. If i had i would have gone bust

I'm now verified. they leave me alone

I was selling alot too, They asked me to do all that verified crap and i suddenly (unwillingly) had a Buisness account. Ahhh well... But now every lil blip. Like two gift payments from the same person makes them send me a wtf is going on style email.

Had one that threatened to hold my money untill it could be verified as legit... By who???

All genuine paypal emails have you paypal name or email details in them...

"Dear xxxx yyyy"

or

"This email was sent to [email protected], because your email preferences are set to receive the PayPal Periodical newsletter and Product Updates."

Everything else should be binned.

The account freezing stories are a bit scary, I reckon the reason they moved to luxembourg was to avoid regulations that prevented these sort of practices.

It was addressed to my name, so I'm sure it's legit. It was sent by their "P2P Risk Team". Maybe if I tell everyone to refrain from including any comments/notes with payments then Paypal will have no way of knowing whether or not it was for a purchase of goods? Sounds like tintin ignored their threats and they went away -- I'll try that tactic!

@JohnH: Whoah, that's incredibly scary that they have the ability to hold your money in that fashion. Luckily my account is never higher than a couple hundred dollars!
