Anyone know anything about syncros big box rims?

I'll not be going anywhere near dh on the build planned, so would these be oversize/overkill/over heavy/over weight?

Speaking of weight, how much does a decent xc rim weigh?

there pretty light iirc but there xc rims , i use most things for dh tho

and i'll be doing dh on a huge lowrider next year  :?

Cheers, so these are just well build, slightly wide xc runs that are pretty light and made by a good brand then?

How would you rate them against my other options, or other brands offerings so I can get an idea if equivalent quality.

I've got some wtb speed masters and could get some sun cr-18 rims.

well i ran wtb speedmasters on my worldforce vr1 and they felt solid too but they were very thin iirc , so yes there just a very strong oversized xc rim 8) 8)

Syncros big box rims were standard fitment on the 2004 GT Ruckus jump bike. The whole bike cost £300 from Halfords - I bought one

Not exactly high spec then, though are they the same rims?

A light and yet strong rim ways around 440gr, it´s easy to find lighter but the also have a weight max around 75kg (rider weight XC use) Mavic-DT rims 430-440gr takes 85-95kg rider.

U can often see descent and fine rims on cheaper bikes just like you see a fine rear derailleur on bikes with cheap parts, that the gear and rims which makes people buy the bike thinking, much for the money.

For XC use the Syncros rims there is on the heavy side and a little overkill but still functional with a light tube and tire setup.

Would they be overkill for big units like myself at 18 stone or are there better fir this heffalump?

It all depends on what you use the bike to.. but normally I will say to people around that weight (18 stone/ 114kg) only buy if the rim have minimum a single eyelet and 36holes on the rear rim and 32 on the front (3cross lacing front and rear).

Never be to cheap when buying rims and spokes for mountain biking to dangerous when talking the riders health.

Mavic XM719 would be a fine for 18stone , the Syncros is okay but not more, all depends needs, use and money, XC use not downhill (double eyelets necessarily there).
