Anyone help me put an age on my AS Gillott

Retro Newbie
Hi all,

I got this Gillott from my old man and am in the process of stripping it to get it refurbished with Argos Cycles and am going to do a modern (wish) build with it.

I've stripped most of it down and have a frame & fork number of 050994. I've had a look online and this doesn't exactly seem to follow the normal Gillott ageing references. Apart from the first '0', I get this as being a 1950, frame number 994.

Anyone else able to confirm this or offer other advice?

Thanks for your time.

Hope you keep it the same colour with same style of decals as it looks good

....by the style of the lugs and block frame transfers it looks rather like an "Edwards" Gillott (post 1963) and the componentry if original to the bike would also suggest mid 60's to early 70's,

Is that a "Ti" on the corner of the 531 decal? if so that's 1977 onwards. Brazed on top tube guides are later. Has it been refurbed in the past?

Re:

Not sure. My old man bought it a few years ago from The Bay so it's anyone's guess... Having stripped it down to a bare frame now, some bits look after-market and some bits haven't been touched since it rolled out of factory. Date would be good but, date or not, it's winging its way to Argos this week for a refurb, new paint, widen rear drop-outs and braze on modern fittings for a Campag Veloce 10sp upgrade.

There's a wing on the decal so that's after 1982 (and it's for frame tubes only) so the decal is quite modern.

It looks late 70s or early 80s to me. I think the fact that the running gear looks like it all matches and is of the same era, it probably suggests it all goes with the frame and is original fitment.
