Anyone heard of Avanti?

I've just got this from the bay and I need to know more about it. The guy I bought it off told me it was a 1992 Avanti Pro Series. Not much info as the stickers say Avanti Pro Series on them! Thing is it uses a top pull front mech which I didn't think were available in '92. There's no provision for a pulley to convert the pull either. Mainly I want to know if it's worth doing up or just sell the frame on. I do like it because it's an unusual frame and it's very light.

Here's a few pics (linky things):

Frame

Seat tube

Dropout

Frame material

Head tube

Frame number

So far the only Avanti that I can find is one in Australia but it doesn't seem to have any distributors outside Oz or NZ. I don't even know if it's the same company.

Any help on this will be appreciated.

yeah they are from down under, mate of mine has one of their full on dh bikes, which is the same design as the old giant dh teams which were copied from the kiwi bikes iirc, they do lots of top end stuff, aswel as normal stuff.

If they're the same company then I'll have to try e-mailing a pic to them and see what comes up.

hi
it's an avanti tuatura (national lizard name) i always thought these were a mantis copy bitd.
this is a New Zealand brand and it is exported to Australia. made in asia (like everything else) always has been.
i guess that is from around 1992.
came stock standard with tange shockblades (ick) so it will be suspension corrected for 2mm of travel.
came standard with zoom stem/bar/post and a deore LX mix (old black/silver combo)

hope that helps, i think i have a catalogue somewhere...

The guy I bought it from said it was from '92 but I wasn't sure. I mainly bought it for the forks but it turns out that the frame is only scratched so a respray may be in order. The stem on it is a Kalloy uno cromo version with a bog standard YST headset. Do you know how much it sold for, originally?

If you can get me a pic and spec list that would be appreciated.

One thing I forgot to ask, clockd, is the seatpost size. At a rough guess, by eye, it looks like it should be around 31.4. Any idea if that's right? Thanks for your help.

hi XSEH

i will try to scan the catalogue when i locate it. i have tried to put up photo's of my bikes but i can't work the downsizing options.
I have a frame of an avanti competitor from 1990 and it has a 31.6mm post although i am sure that the 31.4 will work fine.

I have seen these polished and they look good.

it came standard with panaracer smoke and darts and RM17's for the wheels.
