Not many bike shops will undertake steerer threading work and having done it myself I can understand why.

It can be physically hard, hard on relatively expensive tools and personally, I found it difficult to hold the fork a) securely and b) in a way that eliminated the risk of twisting and damaging it while carrying out the work.

I was doing a steel steerer, ali ones might be easier to work with but I think many shops make the decision to not make the investment in the tooling because it's so rarely requested.

It's probably also the kind of job that you want to charge a lot to do, but only pay a little to have done.
