Anyone able to chase a thread onto 1 1/8 threadless steerer?

Re:

Alloy steerer will likely have a thicker wall thickness so a standard quill stem won't fit inside.

To bore it out and cut a thread would be just be madness, there's a reason threaded steerers are steel.

I have an alloy steerer tube bike with threaded headset. Alan super record, survived so far since 1984

I'd be keeping the wheelies to a minimum on that one

1. It was designed by qualified engineers to be so
2. Road bikes take less impact forces than MTB s

I'm a qualified design and research Engineer in Material Science at a University. I can happily decide if the tube is up to the job or not. Currently working on Light alloys for aerospace projects and two F1 projects.

Personally I would search out a threaded top crown assembly and swap out the stanchions etc or as firstly advised use a threadless HS. Pressing out the steerer can weaken the fit for the replacement steerer on occasions.
