Any plumbers on here?

I've just fitted a new bath tap and its leaking around the join (tap to pipe). I took it off again made sure it was clean and tried again but it still leaks. Its a copper compression type seal thing and looks to be a part of the end of the pipe.

Its leaking at the rate of about 1 drip every minute or so. I've put a bowl under it for now but I was wondering if, as I live in a high lime scale area, this will effectively seal itself up over the coming days/weeks? Or do I need to call a plumber and get him to replace the pipe end or whatever?

Its the cold if that makes any difference!!!

undo the joint and wrap the olive in ptfe tape, remembering to wrap it the same way as the thread goes when you tighten up the joint

A new copper compression ring might help, don't forget to tighten it very strong,

Aye- get a proper articlated basin wrench too, if ye are not using one:

PTFE tape, works wonders.

If its leaking from the tap connector (copper fitting that joins to tap via a brass nut) it should have a fibre washer between tap and fitting.

This may have been damaged during tap swap, you can either replace it or you may get away with PTFE tape as mentioned in previous posts.

Fibre washer

After I'd finishing the job and discovered the leak I comtemplated life for a bit, put a bowl under it, posted my original message and then went for a run. When out running I thought about PTFE tape, silicon sealant and even Hylomar blue!!! Upon returning home a friend that I'd tried to phone earlier, when I couldn't get it to seal, called me back, He said exactly the same thing, fibre washer. I just popped outside to where I'd discarded the old tap and sure enough there it was stuck to the feed. So I'll pop that on in a bit.

Go to a plumbing suppliers and get a new fibre washerprobably a pack of 5 as usually when you swap old washers they tend to shread and you'll be back to square one,speaking as a plumber of 35yrs exp.

Will do!!! I have the old washer here and you're right it doesn't look to clever. It's in a really tricky place to get to so the less times I have to take it apart the better. Thanks!!!!
