Any MTB TANDEMS here? show them!

Here are my two - both Dawes Kickback Twos, bought over the years. We sold the second car 5 years ago and used one for the school run - nowadays it's still family transport, while both get used for tours - last year in the Netherlands. Unladen I've done a few big rides with my 10 year old, including the Gridiron 100km in the New Forest.

One is fairly original but with Mary bars, the other was heavily refurbished with new paint and P2 forks. Both have Maguras as the original cantis were alarmingly weak with two adults aboard. On the black one the Magura is only on the front, with a Deore V for the back.

Both have shortened rear cranks by Chris Bell of Highpath to get the fit right for children.

When you're riding a tandem do you have to verbally discuss coasting & cadence when pedalling constantly?

Only until you get to know each other. Me and my wife can sense pretty quickly what the other wants to do without having to speak. When we are doing something a bit trickier I always tell her exactly what I am doing/want her to do.

In reality if one rider wants to coast, it is very difficult for the other to force their legs up and down, because they just stand on one pedal at the bottom of the stroke. It is very off putting for the other when it happens though!

OK, I'll play, tandem of tandems.
As I wrote via PM - they're beautyfull, especially this white one!
The truth is I didn't knew, that Quatrefoil existing in more than one colour sheme....

You will notice that I set the stoker's cranks a tooth or two in advance of mine. This allows the captain (me) to feel their effort through the timing chain easily.
With time you sense it almost instinctively, at first a lot of communication helps....
