Just bought a bike that is close to where i live (as it was collect only) and it went for v little money (£36) so why not.....but what tempted me was the fact that some of the components look decent (Rockshox Indy forks, Control Tech seatpost, are they Mavic SUP rims?) and the frame looked Ti from a distance....didn't have time to ask questions so plumped for it, but what is it???? :?

Spoke to the seller (a very nice woman, but someone who seems to know very little about bikes). I asked if she knows what brand it is....but before i reveal what she said about it i'd like to know what other people think it is without influencing their opinion....and as i said i don't think she is 100% about what it is, but she did say it could have been resprayed as there is red around the top....not sure what she meant by this.....but it would blow the idea that it is Ti out of the water...if she's correct (i can't see any red from these pics myself, correct me if i'm wrong)... :(

For some reason the frame looks decent quality to me, although perhaps the dropout looks cheap?? If that makes sense  :D

I'm gonna pick it up tommorrow but the suspense is killing me....

looks a bit generalized

that front mech cable mount half way down the seat tube looks odd tho

Reminds me of a circa 1990 Trek Alu frame. e.g 7000.
The top of the seat stays look like that, the forks are too long, but not actually that long a travlel) chain stays are horizontal, so indicates an early bike

The front mech is like that , but keep the front mech dodarwhatsit that the outer rest on as it attaches to the mech, gold mine there ;)

im no expert but that looks like an old old spesh frame to me :?

im only going on the fact that a mate had one and it looked very similar...is it 1" or 1 1/8th?

Interesting thoughts so far and Fluffychicken has possibly confirmed what i have been told by the seller....that it is in fact a Trek.....however, how she knows this i suppose will become evident tommorrow when i collect it as it has no markings otherwise.....

looks like some red paint just under the top headset cup and a little at the top tube cable stop 8)

or is it just me ?

looks a bargin anyway

Just spoken to the seller.....will pick it up tommorrow if this weather ever abates....

She has confirmed that Trek is stamped on the top of the seattube/seatstay (Thanks Fluffychicken once again), and it has definitely been red in the past.....

Anyone know which early 90's Trek were red? And even what year?

Aye, still a bargain i recon, but probably will look to move it on as it ain't the Ti i hoped for :( Hey-ho

You'll notice the knobble next to the rear canti mount as well, it's actually a bolt boss (bottle/mudguard size I think)

Here's the 1992 catalogue.

Colours vary from year to year between models and a few years had a red one.
If it is 7000/8000 I thin kit's the same frame anyway.

Could be the steel version though, doubt it.

LGF take on it
