Any gas engineers or plumbers on here

I am after some advice (or start an argument! )
I have a baxi bermuda back boiler and gas fire front, what i want to do is leave the boiler in situ cap off the gas supply to the fire, and get rid of the fire and put a modern electric fire in it's place. Now i've looked on line and every man and his dog says 'don't do it can't do it you will DIE!!!'

I understand why they say that but here is my argument, a boiler needs air in fumes out. So i intend to build a plinth to hide the boiler controls with lots of air inlets around the side to allow plenty of air in! 'blank off' the fireplace opening with a vented panel,Then as seen in the picture below, block off the opening at the top of the boiler that was for the 'fumes out' for the fire front. The boiler still has it's flue (fumes out) on the top and the chimney will naturally 'vent' fumes out as it always has with the fire in place anyway.

I may be wrong but then please answer me this question, at the moment with the fire front on, not being used what is stopping the fumes coming out of the fire front??

Im no expert, but if everybody is saying don't do it, and they are pro's or experienced I would probably listen to them.

The other thing, I would guess with all the rules and regulations, if you were to do the job yourself I expect you would still need it to be sighned off by a registered engineer for legal and home insurance reasons, and you may have trouble finding someone to do that.

Im sure there is a good reason why it's not recommended.

not sure what your chimney is like, and may be off the track...but in the US there are differences in the flue for gas vs natural fire...lined? or diff. bricks?....not sure, but went from gas to natural flame with no worries as it started out as a natural flame fireplace.

this prob. doesn't help but you should be able to snag a free estimate (info) with a professional.
