Another frame what is it? 1970s Holdsworth? Mercian? Denton?

Re: Another frame what is it? 1970s Holdsworth? Mercian?

I think we can rule it out indeed :)

But those stays, I've seen them somewhere, but can't recall where.

The more I look into this, the more intrigued I've become. There are some distinctive features here

The circular cross section chainstays without a dimple for chainring clearance. Almost all frames seem to have dimples?
Seat tube pump peg eyes
Brazed on BB mounted FD cable guide that 'bends around the corner'. I thought this was damaged when I first saw it - now I realise that it's supposed to be like that!

Learning a lot about the subtleties of frame design

Not all had dimples, mine doesn't :)

And you can see the same brazed on BB front derailleur cable guide as well

Good spot!

I keep getting drawn back to Holdsworth (or rather the frames produced for and by them and the other companies they owned). But no frame has all the same features as mine.

Nice looking frame by the way  .

Yes indeed.

They fit perfectly the bike and those brakes do have the right length indeed for the 700c wheels I put on them.
I think the frame was built for 700c wheels anyway, as the mudguard fits with just enough clearance.

Thanks for your kind words on the build!

Possible breakthrough! Might this be a 1970s Denton?

I have one already from the 80s and it has the same chunky seatstays and no dimple on the chainstays although the other details don't match (it's a later frame). No BB serial on mine either.

BUT I've just found an expired eBay auction for a Denton with frame number 323889. This is the only frame number I've encountered in a LOT of searching that seems to follow a similar format to this 'mystery' frame. This auction is for a 653 frame that is claimed to have been bought in 1991 (so the idea that the last 2 digits may indicate the year of manufacture seems to hold true; thanks Old Ned). Serial no for my frame is 332875.

Off to look for more Denton pics/details.
