Anodising

I phoned A1 Anodising today (Thurs) and they said that they can do a frame! 8) They quoted me £30 just for the anodising but the price would increase if any preparation was needed.

So out comes the nitromors and the polish (as well as lots of elbow grease). :D

Xesh, you will be well chuffed. Bear in mind you could chuck your forks or other parts in the bath with the bike too and colour co-odinate. Thats what i am doing. You think how much it would cost for a full re-spray, its the way to go and the finish will be fantastic.

Good luck mate and please post it up when its done!!

Oh and they can mirror polish too, but its around £15 an hour but its amazing when its done!!

Its supposed to be easier to 'anodise' Titanium, using something like coke and a 9v battery if I remember rightly. Never had the balls to try it though...

I am no expert but I would check before you get a frame done that the welds are OK for it.

I think that fabricated items that were originally designed to be anodized are speced to be welded with a different silicon content filler rod otherwise the color won’t take.

I know from items that I have had done that different grades of alloy certainly accept the color differently (even items done in the same tank / bath) :?

Not trying to put a damper on things - just check it out properly first :D

So long as the surface finish is even they should be able to chemically brighten it before anodising.

I use a 3M kitchen pad to apply an even matt finish (just make sure you follow the shape of the component) before I send mine and it has allways come back very nice and better than most 'shop bought' finishes 8)

Not the best photo but the blue stuff is mine :

The camera doesnt capture it but in sun / bright light they actually look to have a metalic sparkle 8)

I don't need to do the forks as they're Manitou 2s. I've decided to go for a neutral colour - black. I had thought of having the frame done in purple but most of my bits are in blue and it might be a bit over the top.

I'm quite lucky in that I know someone who will polish my frame for less than £15 an hour. :)

That's not a problem as they want me to bring the frame to them to discuss what I want and whether it's possible.

The sticker on the frame says it's made from 7005 aluminium. If I can't have it anodised then I'll have it polished. It's no big deal. I was just speculating anyway. I just think that having a frame anodised will mean that it will keep its looks for longer than if it was painted. :)
