Can someone tell me the thread and length for bottle cage bolts and V-brake bolts please?

M6 should be canti bolts, length is as short/long as you need.
For example I cannot fit the bolts that come with M770 V-brakes into my Forks (Z2) as they are too long. But they are fine for my rear brake. So check first with other bolts

M5 Bottle Bosses (and any other in the frame boss in general) will be, again as long as needed OR as short as can get away with if nothing in there (though plastic plug/bolts may be a better option then as they be lighter ;))

Is there an easy way of telling thread sizes??

So far there's a fair chance of them being M6, 8 and/or 10 :?

I take it V bolts are the same size/type as canti ones??

The M10 and M8 given are for the actual STUD going in to the frame/forks.

The Bolt to hold the actual cantilever/v-brake is only one size and universal at M6. Which is what you asked for I am assuming. Though Anodized Ti is expensive for these.

Measure it will tell you the M size ;)
got to go now.

Aaaah... gotcha.... I will be needing some studs for a frame/forks (the Voodoo has none)..

As for measuring the thread.. isn't it measured in fractions of an inch?

Not a weightwatcher (need to work on the rider before the bike ;) ) but do quite like exotic metals.. not rich enough for Ti in this lifetime I shouldn't think :?

M6 it is then... 8)

I would advise against using Al bolts on cantis or Vs. Rears are iffy, as the force is against the boss/frame. Front is ill advised at best because the force is directly on the bolt head (Al = 30% of the strength of carbon steel). Unless the bolts are from a reputable company like SRP ($$$) you have no idea of the quality, either. Good 7075 aircraft grade bolts can be had reasonably, but they have an dull greenish zinc coating, and aren't pretty.

Measure the OD of the thread with calipers. Pitch is a bit harder without a set of pitch gauges, but the only fine threads on bikes are on BBs and chainring bolts IIRC.

Not rich enough for Ti, but you asked for Ano (I assumed Anodised) bolts. Be very hard to get Anodised Steel bolts.. surly your not going to use Aluminium bolts for the brakes. Even I wouldn't do that

Bolt with M sizes are measured in metric ;) the number is the diameter of the bolt (incl. thread, but not the head)
So M6 has a diameter of 6mm.

Have a read about Ti/Stainless/Ano and anodised colourings, sizes shapes etc... here, this company know them quite well

Wasn't aware it was a bad idea 'til FMJ chimed in...

Was mooching around the Pro-Bolt site earlier, didn't read about the why's and wherefores though..

Have another plan forming now.. involving steel ;)
