Hi all,

This may sound bizarre but i received an envelope in the post today from Norway - it was labelled BIKE PARTS and weighed 63g. The envelope had been opened and was empty.

(edit) the envelope had been deliberately cut open

I have checked to see if i was expecting anything from Norway and i cannot see anything which would match.

If you sent me something, please PM me.

Thanks,

Richard

Steven,

Particularly odd and i am not happy! That is twice in the past month stuff has gone missing - items i sent and now this one.

Re: An open envelope Norweigans please read

Have a word with the Post Office, if it is pilfering they take this sort of thing very seriously and if no-one reports it they'll never know if there is a bad apple in the barrel.
They were also generous in the past if things went missing, much more than your average insurance company at claims time :-(

Re: An open envelope Norweigans please read

Thanks,

I have a lot of experience of postal theft, but i find it odd that the missing stuff went missing as the bits i posted were of negligible value. On this occasion although i do not know what was in this envelope but there were 4 and it weighed 63g - hard to claim for something when you don't know what it is.

Re: An open envelope Norweigans please read

Morning all,

An update -

I checked my ebay purchases and discovered that items i had ordered and paid for in US Dollars were coming from Norway. I had thought that items paid for in dollars were coming from the USA - obviously not!

Has anyone any experience of this? Items ordered, packaging arrives without items. I have PMed the seller to advise him as i still need the items.

Thanks all,

Richard

There was a case like this in Belgium recently. A postman who was working as a temp was stealing from people.

Because he was a temp, he always worked different rounds so it was very difficult to trace the thefts back to him.

Recipients would get empty, opened packages as you describe.

Seems like the Belgian case is a symptom of the (semi) privatisation of postal services and the use of 'flexible' labour... Couldn't happen in the UK, of course

Another update - the Royal Mail said to ledge a claim with eBay - i have messaged the seller first and await a response from him.

On a connected point, i asked RM about an item i posted a few weeks ago which did not arrive. Basically they said, i could claim the cost of postage back but not the contents as i do not have a receipt of purchase of the item. The item was a DA brake adjuster from the 80's. I am not happy with their response and they said that there was no other way to insure the contents.

Not happy,

Richard
