What do (did) you do? I was in the surveying technology technical support. Shares in Leiman's and investments dependant on the FTSE.

I 'was' designing energy efficient 'eco' houses (at the higher end of the market) for a developer in Shropshire.

There is now no new build to speak of at all in most of the country, the government has targets for 2000,000 new houses a year by 2016, this year we'll struggle to build 100,000 and the numbers are falling not rising. Homes that have been built aren't selling and prices have fallen by about 45% in urban areas outside the South East.
I got out a year back and am now doing some post grad research on low energy refurbishment, but that ends in January and I can't see there being overwhelming amounts of funding to carry on, so looks like I'll be going it alone and maybe starting a consultancy of sorts. We'll just have to see, it maybe stacking shelves in Tescos (again!).

This is the problem with construction in this country. The first sign of a down turn and everyone gets laid off. When things start to recover there are no skilled workers left and we end up with shit houses. :roll:

I used to work designing staircases and other architectual fittings (www.bisca.co.uk) I imagine they are finding it very hard going at the moment.

I am hopefully (touch wood) fairly secure now, back in the medical technologies industry. Although we are a new company and rely heavly on investment money for our development, we have a good product, and good potential, so long as the investors keep on comming!
