am i seeing things?

One thing I have noticed is the number of reported stolen "good bikes" never seams to be carried through to the number of "good" bikes available through police auctions.

I know this is probably down to thieves shifting them on faster/people putting in more time and effort in searching for thier stolen decent stead, however I have my suspicions!

I cant help but thinking the police have a first dibs policy on anything prior to it reaching auction. For example I recently did a deal with a chap off ebay that landed me a selection of bits consisting of 2 pace RC36 forks, a complete LX groupset and a lowely but none the less respectable Handsome dog frame... I collected them from his place of work.... A police station...

Theres an idea-the police auctions :D
Heres a link i found concerning them
http://www.wilsonsauctions.com/scotland.asp

Maybe the McRetro crowd could pool some money and see if we can find anything useful in the police auctions

Sad to say but the police collect thousands of lost/abandoned/stolen bikes every year

Seems only correct for a mad cycle group to buy them all
I think the next police auction is on the 30th of this month, whose up for an info gathering jaunt at it
Sorry i cant drive ,have to leave that in somebody elses court

Im currently in negotiations with mrs Puceflange, looks like we will make an appereance (sp) at this for a rummage and a purchase or two, looks like throughout the piles of bikes there might be a wee gem or two

Gc

I don't see a bicycle link anywhere. Am I being really blind?!

Its a link to the auction house that deals with the police auctions

Click the link then look for police auctions
It will tell you when and where. Not whats available, you have to go and look for yourself
Though i think theres a list it wont tell you what the bikes are ,just advertises 'lots'

8) Blind? YES

I work in a police station you know! *smug look*......in fact I work in a police station in a rather posh area too *another smug look*.

I shall enquire tomorrow about where the cops keep the stolen bikes and have a gander if I'm able to.....and then report back! ;)

Great idea
You might find that each sub-office sends them to one large warehouse and they go to auction from there.

While your at it ,can you find out where they send all the drugs and money to be burnt   ,just wondering ,thats all

By off chance today I actually stumbled across the bike lock up area in the basement, no nice bikes to report back on however. Just supermarket/halfords crap. Need to do a wee bit more research though!
