after hanging in the shed for what seems like an eternity, the Xmas holidays has seen me decide to breathe some life back into the old Alves, amazing what can happen with some quality time off work!
lots of it will be built from parts i have lying around, so it won't be the most cohesive looking bike i've ever owned, but it will be functional!
forks are pretty tired, but work, some cut down bars, an old raceface stem, a white and green saddle, and it's going to get the noir cranks, bb and singlespeed set-up i had on the Tranny (which is now going to go 2x9)
sacrificed an old formula oro rear brake for the hose which was thin enough to ft through the top tube routing, re-fitted and re-bled the old C2 rear brake which the rear of the frame was designed for, and it now works a treat!
fitted (but not yet inflated) two NOS wildgrippers that the green on the frame was mixed to match, and threw the lot together for a quick mock-up.... brought a big smile to my face, looks bloody good! :D
looking forward to finishing it off over the next few weeks, seatpost and headset are holding things up for just now.
too be continued......

Re: ALVES 853 REBIRTH

it was all part of the 'clean lines no cable rub' ethos I had when it was getting built! cable stops are on the head tube so no cable rub, rear brake line runs through top tube in a thin brass tube that was brazed in so no rub, and rear brake was installed i the rear triangle to keep it looking uncluttered!
I was going to fit the formula oro 24 brakes I have lying around, but they wouldn't clear, and I was really struggling to get the original hope hose through the top tube, that's when I noticed the formula brake line looked thinner, so cut the lever off, threaded it through the frame, and fitted it up the hope caliper and lever and the job was done! it's really giving me a buzz rebuilding the old Alves, can't wait to get it finished now! :D

Re: ALVES 853 REBIRTH - UPDATE

well, i finished the old ALVES this morning - simple singlespeed style!
it rides really nice, a couple of extra teeth on the front ring make a world of difference too!
it's great to get it back on the road, even though it's my work bike now!
:D

Re: ALVES 853 REBIRTH - UPDATE

remarkable how such a mix of disgusting colours works so well, just the kind of thing I would get horribly wrong
