Alan McNish....

Just goes to show how strong the cars actually are, that was one hell of a big impact.

and how effective the barrier is.

that was huge. 20, maybe 10 years ago that would have been hugely serious.

The second Audi has had an even bigger accident. Very similar. Overtaking a GTE car just before Indianapolis. Turned sharp straight into the armco at 220mph. Car absolutely destroyed, and a two hour safety car period whilst they fixed the barrier. Rocky walked away but is in hospital getting a scan. In context, McNish was probably doing 120 in his accident and had tyres to soften the impact. Indianapolis has 12 feet of grass and bare armco.
Kudos to Audi for building such a strong car. 10 years ago we would be mourning another tragic loss.

Saw the video of McNish and thought woah, what the hell is he doing? Endurance races are won by finishing, do or die manouvres rarely have any bearing on race results better to bide time and pass at an easy point.
Both drivers very lucky to have a car that were well designed.

Carl.

McNish does have a tendency to put his Audi where he shouldn't.
I have a sense of deja vu - every year there's a "McNish collects slower car" report.
Really nice guy and I wish him all the best - but to finish first, you must first finish.
