i have recently sold a set of brakes for £60, and i have been told by the buyer that they have not arrived and it has been 5/6 weeks since i posted them. it was a paypal gift transaction so theres no possibility of making a paypal claim. it was sent 2nd class and there was no postage tracking. neither me or the buyer know what to do here and i cannot afford to refund 60 quid out of my own pocket

any help would be appreciated

cheers

Given the weight of some brakes was it definitely second class not standard parcel? I'd have thought with either option if you have a receipt then you should be entitled to some compensation from Royal Mail (albeit not £60). Then, if it was me, I'd reluctantly compensate the buyer for the rest.

Harsh lesson learned, to send things adequately cover insurance wise. Always worth paying a little more for.

the postage theese days is a joke i dont send anything royal mail anymore they are totally feckless and dont give a monkies when they cock up they do it that ofter they dont even care anymore and there prices are very high considering there ineptitude
questions
why was it sent unrecorded was it your idea or the buyers idea
did the buyer ask for tracked recorded postage
do you have any proof it was posted

so many people try to rip us off everyday we should always cover it happening or it can get very heated
he has no proof youve not ripped him off
youve no proof hes not riped you off etc etc

never ever send anything unrecorded that you wouldnt care if it never arrived the other end

why was it sent unrecorded was it your idea or the buyers idea - it was down to me, the post office fee was £45 already with everything i posted, i needed to keep the costs down or id be out of pocket

did the buyer ask for tracked recorded postage - no

do you have any proof it was posted - sod's law means ive probably lost it by now

wel if the buyer didnt specify and agree to cover the costs of it being sent recorded signed for etc he cant really get on your case about it really

i think you will need the proof of posting to put in a claim for it being lost
and even then it will take forever and they will try everthing possible to stitch you up
but then again ifits not recorded delivery the post office wont know for sure its not been dropped off etc as if your out they just leave it on the doorstep ( ask me why i hate the post office   )

its one of them stuck beetween a company who coudnt give a toss
and a guy who you cant know for sure isnt pulling a fast one
a moral dilema to refund and lose alot of cash for something thats not 100 percent your fault it leaves a bad taste in the mouth doing that
or say sorry matey thats life what can i do about it
