Advice on clipless pedals and shoes please for road use only

Re: Advice on clipless pedals and shoes please for road use

I'm a 43 in normal shoes but in Evans I was finding that I had to go for a 45 in most styles (Shimano, Specialized, Louis Garneau) and one style I needed a 46. Cycling shoes just have utterly ridiculous meaningless sizing so try before you buy.

I have always liked look design especially the Look Delta pedals and Shimano copied PD-1056 PD-6402 and PD 7401 got all of these and they are ace. Modern Look Keo's are lighter though.

SPD are fine for MTB use and for touring cyclists but for proper road use where you will be doing minimal walking the road shoes and pedals make a difference.

Goes with 1 size above in road shoes especially for shimano.

you would be best of with spd,s as has been said.as for size you must try before you buy they all come up a little different.but being serious know, road shoes must be the finest Italian leather made by sidi.everything else is shit :D

And don't tell me, you just happen to..........

Re: Advice on clipless pedals and shoes please for road use

I'm a size 10/11 in shoes, and 47 in Shimano, and they are a bit narrow to be honest. You really need to try before you buy

Fixed that for you Matt.

THM, as we have discussed elsewhere and as others have said, road shoe sizes are all over the place size wise.

I have Shimano mtb shoes and was advised to buy a half a size bigger, which I think is a good place to start. My Fizik shoes are 42/8 and fit perfectly, but are too narrow and a tiny bit too short for my son, who's feet are the same size. He, in turn, has fallen for Bont shoes, as he commutes daily in one pair and has just paid a vast sum for a second top of the line pair for road use, but both of them are in size 46.

My daughter commuted until recently in road shoes with spd pedals, and had no real issues. She's just changed to Speedplays, but I think that was as much to do with needing another pair of spd pedals for an mtb, plus my son and I both use Speedplays.

For now, I'd say, start with SPuDs, as they are cheap and easy to come by, you can always change to something a little more road specific later.

Re: Advice on clipless pedals and shoes please for road use

So, if I find a pair of shoes in Evans I like, will they all work with spds?

Re: Advice on clipless pedals and shoes please for road use

I'm a size 10 which equates to 45 in Shimano sizing. They are road specific . I think some makes are compatible with spds though mate .
I agree that Sidi are the best , but they have got so expensive now my pair are for best weather only , and I use shimano ones for the other 11 1/2 months of the year

The Vittorias are beautiful, and probably cost more than the two road bikes I've got coming.

Thanks though.
