I do quite a bit of road biking and looking to try mountain biking. Will certainly love it. Looking to buy a bike priced around $600 or so. Do you think that’s a little low ? Need suggestions on bikes. Will mostly be doing easy-medium trails.

You can get something very capable for that money. This is a UK forum and your $600 converts to £420 here. You can get a very nice condition early-mid 90s midrange bike for that amount, rigid or hardtail. You could easily get away with spending half that, to see if you like riding off road or not. If you buy the right bike, then you can probably sell it for the same amount you bought it for, if you give up or if you want to upgrade later on.
