Addison Lee Chairman condones hitting cyclists

I seem to have a very polar reaction to Highlandflyers opinions, I am either all for them or all against them, in this case I am all for them. As he states his words have been taken somewhat out of context. As some one who rides in central London on a daily basis, you do see so many clueless cyclists who are a danger to themselves and have little understanding of the risks they put them selves in. People who have never driven, and so have little idea of rights of way and general road etiquette. This isn't a cyclist thing, nor a car driver thing, it is a wider road user thing.

I do use Addison Lee quite a lot, and I have to admit when I first heard these reports I did wonder if I should change that. But actually I decided against it. I find Addison Lee's service to be impeccable. Order a car from my phone app, it will arrive promptly with a courteous professional driver using a car that is always of good standard and at a cost that is for medium-longer london journeys far better than a black cab. I actually used one last night to get me and my bags to Kings cross.

I do however disagree with Mr Griffins less reported call for cyclists to pay a tax and for bikes to be licensed before they are allowed on the road.

Watch out for clueless limo drivers too.

I quite like the idea of offering free insurance to riders, or at least subsidising insurance in order to promote cycling.

Every insurance policy for drivers should cover you for cycling. Simples.

The rider being insured would negate any calls for registering bikes. The idea of taxing the most environmentally friendly mode of wheeled transport is fruitcake!

If I was in power I would be handing out free bikes to the public, the health benefits alone would repay the outlay!

Join the CTC. Apart from anything else you get free 3rd party insurance and access to their cycling law services should the worst happen.

...

I listened to him on the Jeremy Vine Radio 2 show last week, together with Mr Tatchell.

I didn't think he was too bad. He's throwing some extreme comments out to get some debate going.

We all know that whilst most cyclists are good road users, there are some diabolical cyclists out there, and mini-cab drivers have a right to moan I suppose.

Tatchell was a bit stumped with regards arguing, as most of the negativity was aimed at careless cyclists, which Tatchell agreed were an issue.
