A visit to Argos cycles with a holdsworth cyclone

Just spontaneously decided to take in an old holdsworth cyclone ( at last as I've been meaning to have it restored for ages). respraying, cold setting, fixing a dent, decals, lug lining and a few other minor issues sorted out = £420. I can't help thinking that isn't bad - all done by about mid August.

Re:

Could be wrong but sounds a heck of a lot more than I would expect to pay with Chris Marshall.Had a frame shot blasted and alignment checked over plus a respray in cream enamel and lugs lined in red. Also new decals under top coat .About two years ago now but worked out below £150.00. The last time I saw him he was more or less specialising in classic bike resprays. truly excellent work. He trained at pennine and has a good feel for what a classic bike should finish like. If you have any more to do and can get to Keighley Yorks he is worth talking to

Peter

Re:

Sorry. Was not having a go.Simply that people like Chris need to be known about. He is a decent frame builder so can do all the braze ons plus brass fill dents e.t.c. Even build you one of his own branded frames if you so wish. Its his spray work that stands out for me.He seems to get the colours and shades just right. he has done about four frames for me now and everyone has been spot on. I also have a frame that was sprayed by Argos before I bought it and whilst being a more modern frame the finish on that is also excellent. Either way you are bound to get a good job done.I suspect you may just have a bit more cash left with Chris and we can all do with that.

Peter

Definitely worth knowing about him. I've also had good work from Argos but the cost of restoration is pretty daunting sometimes

Re:

£420 = a whole heap of yowsers

I was thinking of maybe getting my Ian May professionally resprayed at some point. Might not bother now.

Ahh yes but a basic respraying at Argos starts at £140. Mines a bit more elaborate and there's some other stuff being sorted out too

The rack of finished frames waiting for dispatch at Argos is a sight to behold.
