A virus has just possibly killed my laptop.

That is a bit harsh, they are great cars.

sadly always overshadowed by Mitsubishi evo's and that bug eye thing they did was a travesty... :P

I noticed some links being terminated by my AV protection.

As others have noted, seemed to be banner ads, I was quite surprised, though, the site I was on at the time was IMDB.

it seems something is afoot!

yeah i know my stuff
no clicky bad linky
seems something is up with ebay?

Not seen anything and I'm on there a bit, but there again I do use adblock plus and flashblock plugins for firefox so if the infected ads are served up via known ad servers they never even load.

Carl.

yeah i find it ultra funny when an ad pops up in a new window but cant load   always makes me laugh

I add crap like PartyPoker to blocked domains. My list of trusted sites is pretty extensive, been building it for years. I don't see any reason anyone in my family should be free to load the junk out there, so everything comes through a knowledgeable adult unless it is already added to the firewall. Sounds Draconian, but in reality it is workable.

I recall someone mentioning no need to use a firewall.

Give them a big old bag of fail.

im going to start building my list

alot of it is common sense but some advertisers are very clever

just had this come up

ok when i put a site on my block list it only blocks the cookies
on privacy tab>sites

would it be under security>sites ?
as i cant get onto that due to custom level

i reckon your right
but what are the six other sites

a point
if that blue screen thing was the virus page then a keen eye will realise its not an ms warning
its too interesting  ms are just drab and lifeless with theyre info

Finally I got my netbook back this afternoon, and he explained just how particularly harsh a virus it was - It had basically attacked and corrupted the entire Operating system, and not helped by 2 opposing security systems that were fighting each other, and almost cancelling each other out...

Seems to be running perfectly again now, and he's deleted loads of unimportant stuff, and programme files, and I've got to say that it's running better than ever.

none of my old data, pics, itunes (or anything else actually) were lost either, everything's rosy here for now... 8)
